[Author's note: since no one else wrote about this, and since I've vowed to not be a one-story author on this site, I've decided to write this up, despite my lack in experience writing for TAY. Hopefully, this'll change over my tenure here...]

EDIT: when I say five guys, I mean five guys and myself, so six guys total at the start.

I'd been promising myself I'd get into one of these game nights sometime. What finally got me in this time? Well, this is the only Xbox 360 game on the roster for the entire month, and I can't really play anything else that's on the roster (shit excuse for a PC, don't really own any PS3 games... so sue me). And... it's Gears of War 3. I may not have played it in a while, but now was a good a time as any to get back into was has always been one of the 360's best hits. Horde mode, fellow TAY members, nothing else going on for Saturday night (aside from Toonami), should be fun, right? Oh yes, it was. How bad could it get? Well... me and four other guys said the exact same thing... in our 30th round. Let's get to it.

First, MAJOR props to my fellow gears/TAY gamers (who I won't name, due to me respecting their privacy if they so wish... and also due to myself not quite remembering what their names were. Sorry, chaps). The five of us, across time zones ranging from Brazil to the West Coast (and Alaska, if I remember correctly), fought admirably against the Locust/Lambent hordes for three dozen waves straight, with me on my trusty turret, my fellow players on the other turret and fighting around our fortified staircase, and a sentry doing its best to keep guard (we really should've named it, guys. That thing just kept going). Against tickers, boomers, snipers, and a round of gunkers, we fought on, with only two major screw ups in the entire run of the game. First, I spawned the Vulcan and DIDN'T end up using it, which caused it to disappear in the later rounds. Second, the boss rounds with the Lambent Berserker were ordeals...

We know what the deal with those things is: distract it, fire when the chest opens up, and [does best TFS Piccolo voice] DODGE!!!! when it comes charging. However, we found a bug of sorts in our second time facing it: we were able to trick it into charging at us in a certain area, where it couldn't actually get to us. And so, for five minutes straight, we emptied ammo into it, and it just couldn't do a damn thing about it (until I ran out of pistol ammo, at least...). It worked brilliantly... until it was about to explode, and we didn't put enough distance between ourselves and the ensuing blast radius. "YEAH, WE GOT THAT THI- wait, what just happened?" All of us went down with it, and we had to do the entire boss wave all over again. It was funny as shit though, more disbelief than actual rage. We eventually got through the 20th wave by circling around the Berserker and shooting when possible, but the bug didn't work, so that became a real time sink.

We soldiered on semi-bravely, until our Brazilian friend had to understandably call it quits, and the 36th round took its toll, ending with none of us being able to buy ourselves back in. Still, a great night for me nonetheless; yeah, I probably talked too much (I blame watching countless Rooster Teeth Let's Play videos for that), but it's always great playing with people who are overall pleasant to talk to. Talking about Kotaku, yelling for assistance when needed, talking about our overall (if a bit flimsy) game plan. It was quite fun. And the kicker for me was that I decided to try out Versus Mode for the first time in about five months, and after one match I somehow got two achievements worth 95 gamerscore total (annoying and pleasantly surprising at the same time). So yeah, TAY gamenight: something I now look forward to every month. Now if we could just get more Xbox players to get in with...
